12 Things You Didn't Know About December's Biggest Movies

8. Nicolas Cage Has Disowned His Latest Movie, Dying Of The Light

Alright, so it might be just a little bit of a stretch to call Dying of the Light one of December's biggest movies, but with Taxi Driver and Raging Bull writer Paul Schrader directing Nicolas Cage in the starring role, it absolutely should have been. However, Schrader took to social networks over the summer to declare that the producers had locked him out of the editing process and settled on a neutered, 94-minute version of the movie that didn't have the approval of himself, Cage or Cage's co-star Anton Yelchin. Though the three actors, along with Executive Producer Nicolas Winding Refn, were contractually barred from speaking out against the film, they all symbolically disowned it by wearing T-shirts expressing their disdain for the gag order. The cop thriller was released in the US last weekend, and unsurprisingly, is one of the worst-reviewed films of the year, boasting a risible 6% on Rotten Tomatoes. Would Schrader's version have salvaged it? It may simply endure as one of cinema's long-standing mysteries (or, you know, not).
