12 Things Disney Want You To Forget About Star Wars

2. The Early Spin-Off Rumours

Although Episode VII was the only movie officially announced with the purchase of Lucasfilm, Disney made clear they were going to make as many spin-offs as audience enthusiasm would allow. And fan speculation went wild - Yoda, Boba Fett, Han Solo, Leia and Obi-Wan were all repeatedly mentioned as big names deserving of more cinematic exploration (some still clamour for KOTOR, but that's very unlikely).

Over the past few years some of these have been corroborated or disproven by leaks - a Hasbro schedule suggested we'd be getting Fett and Solo movies, while various independent sources favour Yoda. Going back to Star Wars reporting in 2013, all you find is a mess of confusion and misinformation.

We now know things are a bit different - it's more about the story than the character. The first spin-off is Gareth Edwards' Rogue One, which will feature Vader and maybe Boba, while the second will be a young Han Solo flick. After that, nobody knows - Josh Trank was set for a third Anthology entry, but word's been quiet on that since he was forcibly quitted.

And yet all those earlier rumours remain, creating lots of needless expectation and misrepresenting what Lucasfilm are going for and no doubt getting those in charge more than a little irritated.
