12 Things In Pixar Movies That Make No Sense
8. A Bug's Life - Why Place The Offering In Such A Dangerous Place?
A Bug's Life tells the story of Flik; an ant who keeps getting in trouble with his colony due to his eccentric behaviour and inventions. Every season, his colony is forced to offer a large portion of their food to a group of hostile grasshoppers.
In the opening scene, Flik accidentally knocks the offering into the stream just before the grasshoppers come to the anthill. As compensation, the grasshoppers demand twice as much food the next time they come. This kickstarts the whole plot as Flik desperately seeks out other bugs to help him find enough food to satisfy the grasshoppers.
All of this could have been avoided if the offering was placed ANYWHERE except beside a stream. It’s like putting a bomb beside a dynamite factory. What did you expect was going to happen? Why didn't they hide or place the offering underground? Aren't birds, worms, and insects going to eat the food if it's left out in the open all day for weeks and weeks? I know this element has to be ignored because it initiates the entire story but it still doesn't make any sense.
