12 Things That Almost Completely Changed 2016’s Biggest Movies
1. Jyn & Cassian Survive In The Alternate Ending - Rogue One
The Original Plan: The earlier trailers for Rogue One showed off a sequence where Jyn and Cassian are running along the Scarif beach with the Death Star's plans in tow. It was later revealed that Gareth Edwards originally shot an ending where the pair in fact survive, presumably escaping Scarif before the Death Star is unleashed.
What Happened?: Despite popular belief that Disney neutered the end product to make it less dark, it was actually at their insistence that the third act was re-shot to kill Jyn and Cassian off, being incinerated by the Death Star's shockwave.
Did It Work?: Definitely. The film does feel a bit misshapen due to the heavy re-shoots, but killing the two off just made the film feel more decisive and honest, as it stopped any conversations about a spin-off trilogy stone dead.
