The Original Plan: The original script for Seth Rogen's R-rated animation (which leaked online during 2014's Sony Pictures hack) had the movie conclude with the surviving groceries leaving the supermarket to basically go on a killing spree out in the big, wide world.

What Happened?: Rogen deliberated over several endings but ended up going full-meta by having the groceries realise they're products and enter a star gate to the "real world", where it's implied they will kill their creators and voice actors.

Did It Work?: Definitely, especially as Edward Norton, in bagel form of course, got to mock his own "c*** name". The original ending is more broad and commercial, so it should be surprising that Rogen managed to get so weird with the theatrical one, but considering how bizarre the entire film is, it's really not.
