12 Things That Must Happen In The Next Batman Film

2. Barbara Gordon

This one will divide many fans but it needs attention; just what state will Batgirl be in if she were to ever feature in a new live action film? Will she make us forget that Alicia Silverstone and her glorious overbite were even a thing that existed for two entire movies by happily hopping around and doling out beat-downs to the baddies? Or will she be the wheelchair-wielding Oracle, Batman€™s provider of intelligence and key-player within the wider DCU? You could argue that having Barbara debut as Oracle is a waste of a potentially solid female hero but that also shines a light on the fact that there have been no disabled heroes to be given mainstream attention. Oracle may be confined to a wheelchair but she can still metaphorically kick your ass, despite not being able to use her legs. Forget falling down the politically correct rabbit-hole simply for the sake of it; having a female hero who is also disabled is something that is yet to happen and might just explode the heads of any little lady who also has physical limitations alongside a love for Batman films. Oracle may have lost the use of her legs in a brutal fashion (in Alan Moore€™s The Killing Joke, which also alludes to the fact that she could have been sexually assaulted by the Joker), but having her be the voice in Bruce€™s head that doesn€™t tell him to spend his nights beating on muggers opens up numerous potential subplots. Batman being initially reluctant to ask her for help and then regretting it will only further strengthen their relationship. When Batfleck inevitably has his showdown with the Jarker (Jared Leto€™s Joker €“ it€™ll catch on), there will be more weight added to their bout if Jarker was the one to paralyze Barbara. Coupled with the potential to add tension to a relationship with Jim Gordon and a possible Birds of Prey spin-off, as well as Batgirl being utilised in a prequel or flashbacks, and there is plenty to be gained from Baraba appearing as Oracle.
