It's a painful inevitability for all fans of the earliest MCU movies that their favourite characters are going to age beyond the point where they can feasibly continue in their physically demanding roles. Some of them will also simply lose interest in making those sorts of movies.

You might think at that point - given Feige's already expressed excitement about the "infinite characters" available to adapt - that they will simply retire the outgoing guys and bring in new ones entirely. That's not the case.

Talking to The Hollywood Reporter, Feige hinted that they aren't against the idea of bringing in new actors versus replacing with new characters:

"...One day, it will be a combination. It will be a combination of choosing which characters to continue on with and explore and which to bring in, as we're doing with Captain Marvel and Black Panther. And certainly to recast in some way or another – as we've already done in certain cases. Certainly many other franchises have reached that milestone before we have and done that with great success."
