There were countless call-backs to the earlier years of the MCU in Avengers: Endgame, particularly during the final battle. Hope called Steve Cap, T'Challa knew and used Clint's name, and Tony hugged Peter just like the latter wanted at the start of Homecoming.

One of the biggest call-backs, however, came as a nod to the opening of The Winter Soldier when Steve Rogers first met Sam Wilson. Steve kept overtaking his unwilling running buddy, rubbing it in with a quick warning of 'on your left'.

This was an epic way to start bringing back the MCU's fallen heroes. Sam got through to Steve and was finally able to say the iconic phrase back to him, before a portal opened on his left, bringing T'Challa, Shuri, and Okoye onto the battlefield. However, once the dust has settled, you start to think about just what thinking and planning had to go in to this.

Sam must have specifically asked for the first portal to be opened by Doctor Strange and Wong to the left of Steve, which given the situation and the circumstances, really doesn't feel like the most important or pressing issue in the world.
