12 Things You Learn Rewatching Diamonds Are Forever
8. The Elevator Fight Is Awesome
Though most of the movie's action is pretty limp and forgettable, there's a fantastic close-quarters fight sequence when Bond intercepts assassin Peter Franks (Joe Robinson) on an elevator.
The claustrophobic, boxed-in nature of the fight and its uncommon brutality - aided by the fact that Robinson was a professional wrestler, no doubt - is a rarity among early Bond movies.
It's simple and stripped down, free of gimmicks and silliness...at least until the fight finally spills outside the elevator and Bond finishes him off with some fire extinguisher spray. For the most part, though, it's miraculous, even if it clashes harshly with the decidedly campier tone of the rest of the movie.
