2. The F-Bomb Is Brilliantly Placed

One of the more controversial elements of Skyfall is that it's the first-ever Bond film to drop the "F-word", with M telling Bond, "I f***ed this up, didn't I?" ahead of the film's final showdown.

Though some fans have found it out of step with both M as a character and the franchise as a whole, it certainly helps sell the seriousness of the predicament and also M's despair. If you can't hurl an F-bomb in the mix when you've got a fleet of armed goons ready to shoot up your hideout, when the hell can you?

Granted, the series would do well not to make a habit of it, but considering how things turn out for M, it was an effectively shocking moment that deepened her characterisation in a smart way.
