12 Times DCEU Movies Completely Changed The Comics

11. Dr. Sivana - Shazam!

Lex Luthor DCEU
Warner Bros

Shazam! was a small scale delight that further cemented the DCEU's course correction following its earlier failures. It was light on its feet and full of humor and heart. It was a mostly faithful adaptation, capturing the earlier comics' wholesome feel with the newer comics' modern sensibilities.

However, its biggest deviation from the source material was the characterization of the chief antagonist, Dr. Sivana, specifically his background and abilities. The comics version of the character is a traditional mad scientist with no abilities beyond his intellect and technology. However, he has dabbled in magic and even obtained the ability to see magical forces after being blinded by mystical lightning.

The DCEU takes Sivana's magical indulgence to the next level as this version of the character was once chosen by the Wizard (who imbued Billy Batson with his power) to be his mystical champion. However, Sivana was shown to be highly susceptible to the Seven Deadly Sins and they became the source of his power. This brought him into conflict with the newly christened Shazam and his adopted siblings.
