4. Superman And Zod's Clash - Man Of Steel

The climactic bout between the Last Sons of Krypton in 2013's Man of Steel displayed how powerful Kryptonians can be under the Earth's yellow sun but was also reviled for its disregard of human life and excessive property damage. This version of Superman, in particular, was criticized for his failure to take the fight elsewhere and save lives instead of bashing Zod through skyscrapers.

The fight reached its fever pitch when in a desperate (mostly forced in nature) attempt to save bystanders from Zod's heat vision, the Man of Steel snapped the Kryptonian's despot's neck, killing him instantly. This was regarded as an extremely controversial attempt to make Superman ''dark and gritty'', a move that completely ignored the spirit of the character.

Previous incarnations of Superman have also murdered Zod, but they were last-ditch efforts that were justifiable than the cinematic version. In addition to this, Zod is alive in the continuities that inspired much of the DCEU, specifically the New 52 and Post-Crisis timelines.
