12 Trashiest Films Ever Made
6. Showgirls (1995)
Its difficult to know whether Showgirls was supposed to be a thriller, a drama or a comedy, but you can say this much its the film that helped kill the careers of Joe Eszterhas and Paul Verhoeven.
A $40 million dollar exploitation movie, Showgirls is basically Ted V Mikels considerably cheaper Girl In Gold Boots (1968) as directed by Russ Meyer. Both films involve a young girl who encounters numerous sleazeballs while trying to become a star, they both involve glamourous professions (stripping and go-go dancing) and theyre both mainstays of IMDbs Bottom Rated Movies.
The only difference is that Verhoeven is far less inhibited when it comes to revealing female flesh, and once Elizabeth Berkley removes her clothes, thats pretty much how she spends the rest of the movie. As the critics pointed out, the most erotic moments are when the girls put their clothes back on.
