Perhaps in a bid to cut through the treacle, Emilio Estevez' fictionalised account of the hours leading up to Robert Kennedy's assassination throws in a light-hearted LSD trip. And then another. And another. Cooper and Jimmy (Shia LaBeouf and Brian Geraghty) are the campaign volunteers cooped up in a room of the Ambassador Hotel. To alleviate the boredom, they give in to curiosity and sample the wares of drug dealer Fisher (Ashton Kutcher) who has, erm, tagged along for the ride. And what a ride it is. Fisher takes it in his stride- mostly lazing in a chair and telling an orange to 'shut up'- but, this being the campaigners' first time, they are somewhat less mellow. While Cooper strips off and squats over a kitty litter tray, Jimmy opens his wardrobe doors to find a blinding montage of US military history; from the iconic Uncle Sam recruitment poster to bombs falling on Cambodia. Both men, wearing only a pair of briefs between them, stand and stare at the stock footage unfolding before them.
