12 Underrated Found-Footage Horror Movies

10. Spree (2020)

Afflicted movie
Forest Hill Entertainment

Everyone wants to be famous, but this movie explores the very dark side of chasing applause. It takes place inside a Rideshare car as a driver called Kurt (played by Joey Keery) tries to go viral by filming himself murdering his passengers.

It should come as no surprise to Stranger Things fans that the movie's biggest highlight is the leading performance from Joe Keery. He makes you fall for the character thanks to his energetic charm and down-on-his-luck relatability. Of course, this sympathy only causes you to feel more and more guilty as his horrific acts escalate.

But, it's not just a star vehicle (literally), as the movie is also a compelling exploration of streaming, consumer culture and social media influence. It's a painfully bleak look at the lengths some people will go to in order to get their fifteen minutes of fame.

Unfortunately, the film received a lukewarm reception from critics and audiences. This is a shame, as it's a movie with plenty to say and a leading performance that deserves to be seen. There's also a cameo from the WhatCulture website nestled in there, so you can't miss that!
