12 Underrated Found-Footage Horror Movies

Travelling the world with one of your best friends before they succumb to their terminal illness sounds way more like an Oscar-bait drama than a horror movie. But, this film goes above and beyond to show you the terrors of the world outside your front door.

Afflicted follows two friends on a trip around the world who run into disaster after one of them is infected by a mysterious illness. They begin searching for answers in an attempt to save him before time runs out but soon come to learn the horrifying implications of his condition.

The source of the affliction becomes evident quite soon into the flick, and the rest of the runtime is spent experiencing the impact of the disease. Without spoiling too much, it's fair to call it a compelling exploration of a classic horror trope filled with tragedy, action and gore. Plus, despite the found-footage style, the film still looks stylish as it's shot well and has some brilliant SFX.

Unfortunately, the movie wasn't a big hit, making only roughly one-third of its budget back, which is what landed it here.
