12 Underrated Found-Footage Horror Movies

4. Creep (2014)

Afflicted movie
Blumhouse Productions

Creep is a, well, creepy movie that shows a videographer taking a job to document the final days of a terminally ill man for his unborn child. However, the more time he spends with this man (Josef), the more erratic, peculiar and sinister his behaviour becomes.

What's baffling yet fascinating about Creep is how mundane and ordinary it all seems. It's slow, visually plain and spends a lot of time building to an ending many might deem anticlimactic. Yet, despite that, it's a monstrously unsettling film thanks to the exploration of personal boundaries and manipulation.

Seeing Josef behave so strangely as he draws the videographer (Aaron) into his life makes you think about all those awkward encounters you've had with strangers but forces you to picture being stuck with them. This is all complemented by the stunning performance from Mark Duplass as Josef, a simultaneously pitiable and terrifying character.

Creep's more understated nature likely led to it falling under the radar. But, if you can look past that, you'll get a horror experience that plays completely differently from its peers. It even has a sequel which is also delightfully uncomfortable.
