12 Underrated Superhero Movies That Deserve A Second Viewing
11. Darkman
945295Before Sam Raimi cut his teeth on big budget studio movies proper with the original Spider-Man, the director was already known for dabbling in experimental superhero films on his own time. While his first attempt, Darkman, is rough around the edges, it's clear that the picture essentially worked as a practice run for the director's time at the helm of everyone's favourite web-head.
That's not to do a disservice to Darkman itself, of course, as the picture is still a thoroughly enjoyable superhero romp in its own right. With Liam Neeson starring as the titular character - an unassuming family man turned brooding vigilante after witnessing the death of his family and being burned alive - Raimi's film walks the line between being a full-on, glorious homage to early comic books and a wacky B-Movie more in line with the director's previous filmography.
Even though the movie didn't set alight the box office at the time, Darkman's reputation has since cemented the film as a genuine cult classic. It's not quite as polished as the other superhero movies on this list, but damn is it just as enjoyable.
