In a way, it's kind of crazy that there was ever a sequel to the 2007 Ghost Rider film. With a murky, toned-down and rather mundane superhero origin story, the original movie is kind of hard to talk about, mostly because everyone completely forgot about it as soon as the credits rolled.

Which isn't something you could say about the film's sequel, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. With a smaller budget and an R-rating, the new movie was a much riskier affair than its by-the-number predecessor. Hell, no longer constrained by studio pressure, Nic Cage practically devours the scenery in every single scene he's in, giving one of the most outrageous performances of the actor's entire career.

It's not some kind of genre-defining classic, but there's definitely a sense that audiences went into Spirit of Vengeance already expecting it to be bad, but if you've got an open mind for a different kind of superhero movie or just enjoy having a good time, then there's simply no way you can't enjoy just how insane this Ghost Rider sequel can get.
