12 Unwatchable Horror Movies That Wasted Great Ideas

5. Ghosts Of Mars

The Reaping
Screen Gems

Coming from Halloween helmer John Carpenter, it was pretty reasonable to expect that 2002’s sci-fi action horror hybrid Ghosts of Mars would be a surefire success. Cult offering Event Horizon had recently displayed how effectively the supernatural and space-based genres could be melded together, whilst the director’s pedigree included the likes of The Thing and Assault on Precinct 13.

The clue’s right there in the name—Space ghosts (though not from coast to coast)!

How could it go wrong?

Well, by muddling the action with interminable backstory and suffocating-ly self-serious tone, for one thing, not to mention character designs which raided the wardrobe of shock rocker Marilyn Manson.
