12 Unwatchable Horror Movies That Wasted Great Ideas

4. The Midnight Meat Train

The Reaping
Lionsgate

Adapted from the short story of the same name by Hellraiser scribe Clive Barker, the crown prince of British horror fiction, the stylish and sparse The Midnight Meat Train appears, for most of its runtime, to be a thinly-plotted slasher which follows Bradley Cooper’s photographer as he tracks the many murders committed by Vinnie Jones’ mute besuited madman on the titular night train.

Then things take a turn, so spoilers: the mute butcher is literally butchering sacrifices for a race of eldritch reptilian monster creatures which reside beneath the city, a twist revealed minutes from the film’s end, meaning the filmmakers barely have the chance to show us these beasts, let alone give their story the spotlight it deserves.
