12 Unwatchable Horror Movies That Wasted Great Ideas

6. The Darkness

The Reaping
Universal Pictures

One of the hyper-prolific horror production studio Blumhouse’s lesser known efforts, 2016’s The Darkness stars Kevin Bacon (who, between Stir of Echoes, Hollow Man, and Tremors, really needs to rebrand as a horror icon) as a suburban dad with a dark secret whose family are besieged by wrathful indigenous spirits when one of their number unintentionally desecrates a religious site on a family trip early on in proceedings.

And does the film make any use of the many fascinating native American myths which have never been seen onscreen in a mainstream Hollywood production?

Of course not!

They’re just window-dressing for a samey, forgettable PG-13 horror effort.

For shame, Bacon and Blum.
