Release Date: December 11th, 2015 Much like the Smurfs movies, there's one thing keeping the Chipmunks flicks from being utterly unbearable to watch, and here that's the presence of Jason Lee as human protagonist Dave. Other than that, what was cutesy and somewhat adorable in short bursts is rendered ear-piercingly infuriating over 90 minutes, complete with saccharine animation and lame pop culture gags. The three films to date have performed consistently well at the box office, each making between $350-450 million at the box office on a budget of $60-80 million. As such, a trilogy wasn't enough for the greedy bigwigs at Twentieth Century Fox, and they opted to press on with a fourth film in the franchise. Is there really anyone out there who wants to see more of this? We've had it shoved down our throats three times already, and that was torture enough.
