Since Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man hit screens in 2002 cinema-goers have just about reached Spidey saturation point, so the announcement of yet another take on the superhero – a reboot of a reboot of a reboot, the third in a little over a decade – begged the resounding question, ‘please God, WHY?!?’

Tom Holland, who first played the superhero in Civil War, will reprise his role as Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Homecoming – which will feature the character during his high school years and reportedly merge the feel of John Hughes’ 80s teen flicks with the superhero genre. Robert Downey Jr. making an appearance somewhere as Tony Stark, and though screenwriters John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein have assured audiences the film won’t be yet another origin story doubts still remain.

Maybe third time really is a charm, but on the other hand does the world truly need another Spider-Man film? Even one made by Marvel?
