From Super Mario Bros and Street Fighter to Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and the seemingly never-ending Resident Evil franchise, video game to movie adaptations never really seem to fare that well and the soon to be released Assassin’s Creed, starring and co-produced by Michael Fassbender, could well go the same way.

Though the trailer that debuted in May shows promise, it does feature Fassbender sultrily uttering the cheesy line ‘We work in the dark to serve the light. We are assassins’ and the choice to use king of narcissistic delusion Kanye West’s I Am A God as soundtrack rather than, well, anything but Kanye, has come under scrutiny in internet circles.

While it’ll probably rake in a bit at the box office from action lovers and game enthusiasts, and maybe even find a few fans, if the recently released Warcraft – a commercial and critical flop in the US but a big box office hit in China – is anything to go by, it isn’t going to endear most critics and audiences.
