12 Upcoming Sci-Fi Movies That Could Be Better Than Star Wars: The Last Jedi
6. Alita: Battle Angel
Release Date: July 20
Though there are countless reasons to be sceptical of the upcoming adaptation of the iconic manga Battle Angel Alita (namely Robert Rodriguez directing a $200 million movie for the first time, Hollywood's track record with manga adaptations, and those creepy bug-eyes), it's important to remember that it's being produced by James freaking Cameron.
Cameron was originally set to direct the film himself, and it's safe to say that he's going to have significant creative input on the end result. Given his history of making seemingly doomed projects work, it's hard to rally too hard against this one.
If Cameron and Rodriguez knock it out of the park, it's going to be a visually stunning, ambitious sci-fi which will prove that, yes, Hollywood can actually produce a respectful manga adaptation. We'll see.
