12 Upcoming Stephen King Adaptions His Readers Can Look Forward To
1. The Long Walk
The Long Walk is one of Stephen King's most beloved tales among his more dedicated fans. Frequently overlooked by casual readers, constant readers count this bleak tale of near-future America among their favorites.
Written under King's pseudonym of Richard Bachman, The Long Walk tells the tale of an annual walking contest held in totalitarian American state. The contest has no set finish line, and consists of 100 teenage boys. Each walker must move at a set pace; should they fall below, they're given a warning. At three warnings, they're ticketed - in short, their ticket is punched, as they're shot by soldiers on the sidelines. The walk continues until only one walker remains.
The prize? Whatever the winner wants, for the remainder of their life.
Just this April, it was announced that New Line would be adapting the story. James Vanderbilt, who has script writing creds for White House Down and Zodiac, will be at the helm. King regular Frank Darabont (The Mist, The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile) had worked on getting an adaptation of The Long Walk to screens for years - perhaps Vanderbilt will have better success.
