There is perhaps no more beloved novel of Stephen King than The Talisman, and for good reason. While The Dark Tower is King's magnum opus, a sprawling western/fantasy/horror that blends genres and jumps across worlds in a multiverse, The Talisman was King blending fantasy and horror with almost childlike wonder.

Close to the hearts of many King fans, an adaptation has been desired for years - but only in the right hands. In short, fans do not want the debacle that the Dark Tower adaptation turned into.

Co-authored by Peter Straub, The Talisman is the story of Jack Sawyer, a young boy who embarks on a quest in another world to save his dying mother. That world, a mirror of our own known as The Territories, is full of both wonders and terrors. Along the way, Jack befriends a young werewolf, simply named Wolf, and must seize the titular Talisman to help cure his mother of cancer, before the murderous Morgan Sloat gets his hands on it.

One of King's most engaging works, The Talisman is ripe for a big screen adaptation. Fault in Our Stars director Josh Boone is handling scripting duties for Steven Spielberg's Amblin, and could direct as well, though no anouncement has been made.
