12 Villains Far Too Lame For The Marvel Cinematic Universe

8. Plantman

First Appearance: Strange Tales #113 Enemies: Fantastic Four, Avengers As a poor orphan living on the streets of London, Samuel Smithers was overjoyed to find shelter with a British botanist who happened to be conducting research into the intelligence locked inside plant life. After his mentor passed away, a grown up Sam took up the torch and headed to the USA to continue his work, though the device he created in the hope of communicating with plants was ridiculed and he ended up having to work as a simple gardener. Luckily for Smithers €“ not so much for those that had openly mocked him €“ a freak storm saw his patented Vege-Ray gun get struck by lightning, supercharging the thing and allowing its owner to not only communicate with plants, but to animate them as well. Pretty cool, but cool enough for the big screen? The Avengers have taken down some pretty heavy duty villains by this stage in the MCU saga, with their eyes now pointed skyward as they ready themselves for enemies from another world entirely. It€™s hard to see a man disguised as a plant with an army of shrubs causing much of a stir at Avengers HQ, or indeed in the cinema screens.

Phil still hasn't got round to writing a profile yet, as he has an unhealthy amount of box sets on the go.
