12 Ways Captain America: Civil War Will Be The Exact Same Movie As Batman V Superman
10. An Old General We'd All Forgotten About Comes Back
Warner Bros. Pictures/Marvel
Plenty of Man Of Steel characters returned in Batman V Superman, but in amongst big hitters like Lois Lane and Perry White, there were also some rather odd choices; strangest of all, Harry Lennix reprised his role as General Swanwick in Lois' conspiracy subplot, being alternatively cagey and open on a whim, despite having left very little impact in the previous film.
Civil War isn't only incidentally repeating a similar trick, it's one-upping Dawn Of Justice; William Hurt's General Ross is back as a key instigator of the Sokovia Accords, essentially serving as the film's de facto antagonist. It's not just a bigger role, however. The last time we saw Thunderbolt was way back in 2008's The Incredible Hulk (2011's The Consultant doesn't count as that One Shot was simply cleaning up a major plot-hole reusing old footage), a movie that now feels so inconsequential even die-hard fans skip it during their MCU marathons.
Bringing back Hurt is likely just a way to resolutely make sure Edward Norton's stint as Bruce Banner is still relevant going forward, and it's hard to say the cohesion between disparate films isn't appreciated.
