12 Worst Casting Decisions In Harry Potter Movies

10. David Tennant As Barty Crouch Jr.

Harry Potter Casting
Warner Bros.

Where the late Roger Lloyd-Pack was the perfect tone for Barty Crouch Sr. , David Tennant's part as wayward son Barty Crouch Jr. left a lot to be desired. Fresh off his OTT Doctor Who days, Tennant plays the character as the ultimate pantomime villain. With Captain Hook menace, you half expect someone to shout "he's behind you" whenever Tennant is on screen.

Thankfully it is Brendan Gleeson who plays the guise of Crouch for most of the film, and Tennant’s last-minute appearance sours the part. Confusingly, it is also Tennant who plays the role during the flashbacks, despite him supposedly being a teenager at his trial, and the film does away with Rowling’s description of his signature sandy locks.

However, it could have been even more comedic if the role had been given to first choice, Little Britain's David Walliams. This still isn’t enough to save the Tennant performance, as in a world of poorly developed Death Eaters, Crouch is one of the worst offenders.

The majority of his convoluted backstory and relationship with his father is cast aside for hissing threats at the main cast, mixed with the odd evil glare. Stick to playing the hero David!
