12 Worst Casting Decisions In Marvel Movies

4. Christopher Eccleston - Malekith

Thor: The Dark World is probably the worst film in Marvel's superhero filmography. You can take shots at the film's mediocre story, acting, and spectacle over substance schtick, but everything was dragged down by having Malekith as a lackluster villain and having normally-great Christopher Eccleston do a pretty unremarkable job with the character. With his English accent, Eccleston does manage to bring some sort of regal-ness to Malekith, but everything else was severely lacking. Eccleston isn't physically imposing enough to convincingly take on Thor, he made Malekith incredibly glum and far too serious, and you just couldn't feasibly accept his motivations beyond 'I want to destroy everything'. All these flaws resulted in a boring one-note villain who is blander than the shade of his skin and that is incredibly disappointing as Marvel had cast someone who played Doctor Who and can cycle between drama and humour on a whim. The material was admittedly pretty weak, but there was no reason why someone as talented as Eccleston couldn't at least do something more with Malekith than making him just some forgettable road block.
