Eddie Brock/Venom is supposed to be an violent and scary thug who uses intimidation against his enemies, not a 90-pound guy with spiky blonde hair who just so happens to be Eric Foreman from That 70's Show. Brock's story in the film is similar to the comics is tragic as the character was simply a guy trying to do the right thing and was driven to do bad stuff after he makes one mistake and his life falls apart. Topher Grace brought a smart-ass frat-boy persona to the character that was completely wrong and made the character into a douche who gets everything he deserves rather than a sad guy just trying to do something right. So rather than draw the audiences' sympathy in by using the character's tragic backstory, Grace eschewed away from the source material and Brock became just another generic bad guy for Spider-Man to beat up. And that's not even the worst aspect of Grace's performance. Eddie Brock is a physical powerhouse of a man who is imposing and athletic, but Grace will forever look like the kid who is always picked last for sports, no matter how much bulking up he does. There's just so little right and so much wrong about Topher Grace as Venom that it's probably for the best that he has shied away from comic book films ever since.
My life story is nothing special. I haven't cured ebola, I'm nowhere near stopping terrorism, and I'm still working on that climate change problem.
Instead, all I've done so far is put a few hundred words together in an attempt to make people laugh.
