12 Worst Marketed Movies Of 2018

8. Slender Man

Slender Man's marketing campaign was a flaming trainwreck of mistakes and uncertainty on the part of Sony.

The first trailer promised an unremarkable but basically acceptable horror flick, yet due to mounting pressure over the real-life Slender Man stabbing case, Sony panicked and ended up cutting the vast majority of the film's death scenes.

As a result, characters just disappear from the film without a trace, making the early trailers seem patently dishonest by advertising a movie that wasn't what Sony ended up delivering.

To be clear, the film always looked like trash, but at least the marketing seemed to present a complete movie, whereas the eventual theatrical release was a disjointed disaster that tanked critically and commercially.

And it certainly didn't help that news spread shortly before its release that the producers were considering shopping it to Netflix following marketing disagreements with Sony. Yikes.
