12 Worst Marketed Movies Of 2018
7. The Happytime Murders
This R-rated puppet comedy quite literally blew its wad too soon by giving away the movie's best joke - a gag in which a puppet ejaculates silly string - in its red band trailer.
It's a common complaint about comedy movie marketing that the trailers often give the funniest jokes away for free in the desperate hope to convince audiences that even funnier jokes will be in the full movie.
But The Happytime Murders is a shockingly laughless mess outside of that scene and a few effective one-liners. Apparently audiences mostly saw through the deception, at least, as it barely recouped half its budget at the box office.
