13 1990s Horror Movies You Must See Before You Die

12. Scream 2

Scream 2 is a minor miracle of a horror sequel. Most horror sequels underwhelm and this one was put together in a particularly short time, but somehow Scream 2 emerged as a very, very worthy follow-up to the classic original.

It's got all the suspenseful set-pieces, sharp plot twists and brilliant meta-humour that made the original beloved and, since it places these elements on a larger canvas and successfully moves the characters along, it does exactly what a sequel should.

It isn't as good as the original, but the fact that it was such a worthwhile affair even though all the odds were stacked against it made this a truly satisfying horror sequel.

As for the other two Scream films, Scream 3 (2000) was a let-down and Scream 4 (2011) was, once again, surprisingly good albeit certainly not on the level of the first two. A fifth film is on the way and given how consistent this franchise has mostly been, another film is perfectly welcome.
