13 1990s Horror Movies You Must See Before You Die

This controversial Austrian horror film from the legendary Michael Haneke is a very disturbing and uncomfortable film to watch, but in a very good way.
Not only is it haunting and suspenseful, but it rewards the viewers' endurance of its sadistic, violent story by giving them plenty of food for thought and interesting social commentary, as well as strong performances and direction from Michael Haneke.
It also has some of the most memorable - and definitely the most disturbing - fourth wall breaking in film history. It's not for everyone but it's a very strong and well-executed horror film nonetheless, as well as a great example of a film that's deep but also refreshingly simple and never preachy or pretentious.
Michael Haneke remade the film in English with a western cast in 2007. Since it's a shot-for-shot remake the pair are basically the same, so you can watch either one.
