13 2018 Movies That Are Destined To Disappoint You

7. Slender Man

Slender Man Movie Director Sylvain White

Release Date: May 18

The idea of adapting the popular Internet myth Slender Man into a modestly-budgeted horror movie is actually pretty smart: studio Screen Gems knows there's an in-built audience for it, and they know that millions of people find the titular character genuinely terrifying, not to mention those who've not yet been introduced to it.

Unfortunately, the movie is being directed by Sylvain White (I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer, Stomp the Yard, The Losers), and with its story focusing on a group of teenage girls, it seems likely that the movie's shooting for a teen-friendly PG-13 rating, where it'll be chock full of lazy jump scares and little else.

With the right filmmaker and a studio prepared to go the R-rated route, a Slender Man movie could be legitimately horrifying, but instead it'll probably end up a lame-brained kiddie horror that'll make some fast cash and then disappear without a trace.
