8. Maya Was The Villain - Iron Man 3

Given how ridiculously annoyed way too many people were at the twist at the end of Iron Man 3, you'd think that any alternate to the final villain set-up there would be welcomed with open arms. But not so for Marvel Studio executives, who showed some of that good old fashioned Hollywood sexism by nixing the original plan.

Originally, Rebecca Hall's Maya Hansen was supposed to be the "real" villain behind the false-front of the Mandarin, as opposed to Aldrich Killian - a revelation that fits the movie's themes way better. Unfortunately, some of the executives didn't think a female villain would sell any toys, so they scrapped that idea so far into filming that Hall wasn't even aware of the change until shortly before they filmed her death scene.

Still, at least it worked out for the Marvel toy department, since every child in America now has an Aldrich Killian toy. Oh no, wait...
