13 Announced Movie Remakes Which Could Be Awesome
5. The Craft
The Original: A deliciously entertaining supernatural horror-satire about a group of outcast high-schoolers who dabble in vengeful witchcraft.
It's unquestionably one of the most quintessentially mid-90s movies ever made, and served as a major coming-out party for stars Robin Tunney, Fairuza Balk, Neve Campbell and Rachel True.
Despite mixed reviews, The Craft was an unexpected box office hit that remains a fondly-remembered cult fave - especially with teenage girls - over 20 years later.
The Remake: It's easy to see why many fans were fuming when The Craft was announced for the re-imagining treatment - or as some reports stated, a "reboot-sequel" - but you know what? It's exactly the sort of movie which could be cleverly re-purposed for the millennial crowd.
That's obviously much easier said than done, though talented writer-director Leigh Janiak (Honeymoon) was hired for the gig back in 2015, and the script has since been re-written by both Daniel Casey (Kin, Fast & Furious 9) and Zoe Lister-Jones (Band Aid).
If the film can walk a fine line between encapsulating the charm of the original and updating it for a new generation, it could be a rare remake that services viewers both old and new.
Robin Tunney recently confirmed that the film is indeed a remake and still going ahead, and given how effortlessly a movie like this could hit in a Hollywood craving more female-led genre films, one suspects production might ramp up soon.
