13 Announced Movie Remakes Which Could Be Awesome

4. The Wild Bunch

The Wild Bunch 1969
Warner Bros.

The Original: Sam Peckinpah's unforgettable 1969 epic western masterpiece, following a gang of outlaws seeking out one final score as the mythic American West evaporates around them.

Beautifully symbolic, brutally violent, fantastically acted by its ensemble cast (including William Holden, Robert Ryan, Ernest Borgnine, Edmond O'Brien, Ben Johnson, and Warren Oates) and impeccably directed, The Wild Bunch is an almost peerless entry into the genre.

The Remake: Warner Bros. first announced a remake back in 2011 with the late Tony Scott attached to direct.

That obviously didn't happen, and after the project passed through numerous hands - including a version starring and produced by Will Smith - Mel Gibson was confirmed to co-write and direct late last year.

It's fair to say that Gibson faces a monumental task living up to Peckinpah's legacy, but given how well-versed he is as an actor's director and as a purveyor of cinematic bloodshed, it's hard not to have faith that he'll deliver a worthwhile remake.
