The Original: David Lynch's wildly divisive 1984 adaptation of Frank Herbert's beloved sci-fi opus, an uneven yet unforgettably weird and oft-gorgeous epic despite Lynch having his creative control restricted throughout production.

Unsurprisingly, it bombed critically and commercially, but endures as a cult curio.

The Remake: As was music to the ears of sci-fi fans everywhere, Denis Villeneuve (Arrival, Blade Runner 2049) has been hired to helm this re-adaptation of Herbert's source material, with a script co-written by Villeneuve, Oscar-winner Eric Roth (Forrest Gump, The Insider) and Jon Spaihts (Prometheus, Doctor Strange).

Given Villeneuve's prodigious talents as a genre filmmaker and the clearly titanic budget he's been given to realise his vision, it's easy to have faith he'll deliver a more assured and unrestrained end product.

Plus, with a ludicrously stacked cast including Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Dave Bautista, Stellan Skarsgård, Charlotte Rampling, Oscar Isaac, Zendaya, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, Jason Momoa and David Dastmalchian, it boasts one of the most enviable acting line-ups of any movie from the last decade.

Whether it bombs at the box office or not - honestly, it just might - in terms of sheer quality the project is in great hands.

Dune is due to land November 20, 2020.
