13 Awesome 2016 Movies Everyone Thought Would Suck

4. David Brent: Life On The Road

Why It Should've Sucked: Ricky Gervais reprising his iconic David Brent role in a movie nobody really asked for or needed is nothing more than a transparent exercise in lining Gervais' pockets for one more go-around.

Why It Was Awesome: It's absolutely right that Life on the Road did not need to exist, but to Gervais' credit, he actually moves the Brent character on in an interesting and surprisingly depressing way.

Sure, there are gags-a-plenty, but the movie is much more compelling when it riffs on the nature of "fame" and desire of the human spirit to persevere, driven by Gervais who effortlessly slips back into the role that made him famous.

This really should be the last word from the character, but given how it seemed destined to be nothing more than a lazy cash-grab, it's actually got surprising dramatic heft.
