13 Awesome 2016 Movies That Deserve Best Picture (But Won't Get Nominated)

9. Captain America: Civil War

Why It Deserves Best Picture: Civil War was the Marvel Cinematic Universe at its near-best, melding a tight script with excellent performances and electrifying action sequences.

If the Academy has largely ignored superhero movies because they're mostly nonsense, here's one that actually considered the consequences of large-scale action in a meaningful way, and wrung enormous amounts of dramatic tension out of the central superhero schism.

Why It Won't Get Nominated: It's too "big" to get nominated, really, and though it made huge dramatic leaps from the previous movies, a big chunk of the Academy (primarily older voters) are simply too prejudiced against comic book films to give them a chance. Shame.
