5. Wolverine Was Almost Re-Cast For Days Of Future Past
In the original Days of Future Past plan, Bryan Singer had entertained the idea of putting two Wolverines on screen, offering the chance to secure a new actor to extend the X-Men franchise into the future without having to worry about Hugh Jackman's ageing (or his plans to retire from the role). Clearly that would have made his cameo in First Class all the more confusing, but the franchise was never all that concerned about continuity anyway. But Matthew Vaughn confirmed during his promotional tour for Kingsman that his outline for Days Of Future Past was going to include an entirely new Wolverine:
I had a whole different idea of how X-Men should go. I thought Days of Future Past should be the next one and itd be set in the 80s. So, when I wrote the treatment, I then wrote Kingsman and got confused about which film I should direct next. I said to Fox, Let me do Kingsman now, get somebody else in and well do the 70s version, recast Wolverine, and then we do Days of Future Past with the new Wolverine and Hugh , and make it the biggest spectacle weve ever seen.
Unfortunately for him, Fox disagreed and decided to give the franchise back to Singer, and push Jackman's Wolverine back into the driving seat.
