A 2017 indie hit, It Comes At Night is the story of a world on its knees from a massively contagious disease. The film is set out in the middle of nowhere in a house owned by Paul, his wife Sarah and their son Travis.

Their uneasy tranquillity is broken suddenly by Will who, after some tense negotiations with Paul, explains that his family are in need of some shelter and supplies. Though the two families eventually end up moving in and working together, there is always an uneasy presence over them as distrust emerges, certain stories start to develop some plot holes and events from the outside start adding to the increasing paranoia.

The effects of the virus are shown to us throughout and make for some of the scariest moments of the film. Infected individuals most notably begin sprouting black eyeballs and have the tendency to start vomiting a gross-looking black goo.

However the real villain of this film is the increasing paranoia that slowly creeps into every one of our characters. Seeing these genuinely loving group of people morph into something far darker because of their fears and suspicion is dark, morbid and unnervingly real.
