4. Nikolai Rising - Eastern Promises 2

The Pitch: After David Cronenberg's excellent 2007 thriller concluded with undercover FSB agent Nikolai (Viggo Mortensen) climbing to the upper echelons of the Russian mob, there was clearly plenty of room for a sequel to depict how Nikolai would make use of his new-found powers.

Though no official synopsis was ever released, it's safe to say the sequel would've had Nikolai and Kirill (Vincent Cassel) getting into a power struggle, and rumour suggested a large portion of the movie might even take place in Russia. Sounds great, right?

What Happened?: The original film only barely made its budget back, so it's not too surprising that financiers weren't exactly tripping over themselves to bankroll another.

Though it was briefly stated at the beginning of the year that the film had been resurrected, word has once again gone quiet. It's never happening, folks.
