13 Awesome Performances In Otherwise Disappointing 2021 Movies

11. Florence Pugh - Black Widow

Black Widow was a film that disappointed critics and MCU fans alike and this wasn't surprising. It was a thoroughly unsatisfying sort-of prequel that came out several years too late and failed to come together as a story or give Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) herself the send-off she deserved.

Still, there was one thing everyone loved: Florence Pugh's Yelena Belova.

Sometimes it really seems like Florence Pugh is genuinely incapable of giving a bad performance - hell, she even did a good job with her nothing role in the Liam Neeson thriller The Commuter - and she adds another terrific performance to her growing filmography here.

With bucket-loads of charisma, bang-on comedic timing, an excellent handing of the character's emotional moments and a very solid Russian accent, Florence Pugh takes what is, on paper, a pretty standard and forgettable quip machine and turns her into a loveable, endlessly engaging action heroine who's easily the best character in the movie.

It's great that Yelena will be the new Black Widow moving forward; after all, there's no such thing as too much Florence Pugh.
