13 Awesome Summer Movies You Probably Missed

The Plot: A mockumentary following the rise and fall of Conner4Real (Andy Samberg), a mega-pop star whose second solo album flops and forces him to consider re-teaming with his iconic former boy band, The Style Boyz (Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone).

Why It's Awesome: The mockumentary genre has always been pretty malnourished, so what a relief it is to see The Lonely Island come along and deliver one of the funniest movies of the year in the format.

Smartly ripping both documentary filmmaking and the pop music industry to shreds, the trio leave no stone unturned and no target unvictimised on their comic crusade, which includes memorable appearances from Sarah Silverman, Tim Meadows, Justin Timberlake, Will Arnett, Seal, Pink and so many more.

Mockumentaries are always a bit of a box office gamble, and sadly Popstar didn't even make half its $20 million budget back in cinemas. It probably would've fared better being released straight to Netflix.
