12. E.T. In The Senate

George Lucas and Steven Spielberg have made no secret of their bromance, with the latter shoving lots of Star Wars references into his films; R2-D2 and C-3PO are depicted in hieroglyphs in Raiders Of The Lost Ark and E.T.'s human hero is obsessed with the space saga.

When the prequels rolled around Lucas too got in on the act, sneaking some representatives from E.T.'s species into the senate. Just after Amidala calls for a vote of no confidence, three extra-terrestrials can be spotted in a pod on the bottom left corner of the screen. As we discussed recently, some fans have taken that as evidence of a shared universe. Blimey, that little guy sure has a long journey back home.
